8/22, PS3 Folding Update!
The PS3 Folding@Home client was updated earlier this week, enabling several new features.
According to the F@H News page, version 1.2 added the following:
- Remote access via PSP. You can check on your PS3’s folding progress via your PSP. Why? I am not sure, but sounds pretty cool. Sort of.
- Screensaver mode, consumes less power and increase performance for the simulation
- Advanced Participation Mode: only recommended to users that fold at least 8 hours a day…perhaps the equivalent of the > 5MB proteins for the PC version…more points?!
- More cores supported for simulation. Meaning more projects can be done by the powerful PS3s, which is just great news for the researchers.
Happy foldings =)

Kakao Stats – Track Your Individual Stat!
Last time I talked about EOC Folding and its cool team stats tracking system. However individual stats is not calculated unless your team is in the top 800. Now that is not too fair since most of the teams are not in the top 800, and we wanna know our individual stats trends too!
So today I bring you Kakao Stats.
This site tracks all the team members on your team, and find out their recent performance. For example, you get to see how many points you receive in the past 7 days comparing to your friends and what your team and project ranking will be in the next week, or even month if you keep up with it. It is fun because you get a sense of urgency if you see someone is catching up fast, folding more per 7 days than you are, so you better hurry up!
Together, this site and EOC will give you a good idea of you are doing, and satisfy your competitive side, making this cancer curing cause more interesting!
Happy folding =)

Several Milestones Approaching…
While Team BSOD continue to move up the chart, there are several members about to reach personal milestones.
- Katie_Zeleski, currently sitting at #12 spot in team ranking, is slowly approaching the 10,000 point mark. My guess is sometimes next week. Rumor has it that someone else is folding under her name, but since we cannot verify that, maybe we’ll give her an * too?
- Paris_Hilton, although currently inactive, is close to the 15,000 mark. She is going to Ghana for a semester, so probably won’t achieve the feat anytime soon, unless she secretly changed one of the office computer to her user id.
- Adam_Carpenter, he graduated this May, but still folding with us. With 28,629 points, he probably will meet the 30,000 mark in the next two weeks.
- parker has been trying to win a battle of the 3rd place spot with bchan, currently racking up over 3000 points in a 7-day period. Looks like he may pull away and reach 50,000 mark in the next two weeks as well.
That’s it for now, happy folding =)

Little Bit of Sunday Reading…
Our new friends at CancerBuster Team shared the link with me yesterday, regarding some breakthrough treatments for cancer in Australia.
You can read about it HERE.
We fold because we want to contribute to the cause, so it is nice to see scientists working their butts off as well =)
Thought I would share with you all, thanks for the news, CancerBuster Team!
EOC Folding, Making Folding eXtreme!
Just want to take a quick moment to talk about Extreme Overclocking.com’s Folding Stats site — EOC Folding. So of my may already notice that it is part of our blogroll here. What makes this site unique? Well for starter, if you are competitive, and you want to win in everything, this site provides you a little “conquest” and “threat.” Basically, EOC Folding takes the top 2000 F@H teams, tracks their stats every several hours, and from the trend of each teams’ progress, the site will tell you when your team is projected to beat the ones ahead of you, or when you will be beat by the ones behind you.
The site also gives cool statistical graphs that demonstrate your team, like this:
Pretty cool, huh? The site is even better once you are at the top 800, then it will track your team members’ stats as well, and give you similar “conquest” and “threat” comparison with other individual users. Right now it will take us team BSOD almost 7 months to possibly catch up to Top 800…hurry up, go buy some more PS3s!
Anyway, check out the site, it’s really neat.

Folding Tool 4 You!
What is FahMon? It is a nifty little tool that checks the progress of your folding client. It’s compact and it’s useful.
It includes a progress bar, ETA, PPD (point per day), and it also benches mark the PPD stats in relation to the different projects you did. So you can figure out which project has been the most point efficient for you.
It also has good network support so if you have multiple machines folding on the same network, you can check all of them on 1 computer, very helpful in a office environment.
Many people use the graphical client, but personally I prefer the console version so I never have to worry about whether it’s running because it is always on as a process at the background. I look at the FahMon screen once awhile to see how I am doing. Very simple to use, with nearly no installation. Check out the link to its homepage for more info!
Finally…
A place on the web for BSOD Folding team. It is necessary for such website to exist because I don’t feel like working on my final project and need something to distract me.
Here is an idea of what will be featured on this site:
- Current member list (active and inactive)
- Current team ranking
- Current member ranking
- Folding news
- Tools and programs that will enhance folding
